Whitecaps
No doubt, the story of this Sunday ride was the wind. Make that, the COLD wind. With some sunshine and 53 degrees it was a nice enough spring day here, but the lake breeze made it feel chilly. The wind was such that there were whitecaps on the now ice-free Lake Winnebago.
I turned 11 laps of my neighborhood crit course, and for the life of me the wind was in my face for 3/4 of every lap. I'm not sure how that is even possible, but it sure felt like that was the case lap after lap.
I felt good today. No issues. Coming off a week when my back was sore once again, it felt very good to stretch my back out on the bike. There was no pain whatsoever while riding today.
Leg warmers, arm warmers and three layers on top did the trick. But once again I marvel at seeing people out and about wearing nothing more than a T-shirt out there today.
I live among ice people.
There have been no rides out into the countryside yet this season. I feel like I need a couple of good rains to clean the roads off to make things safer out there. Plus, I need to just put some basic miles into my legs and my butt before venturing out on my own on those country roads for longer distances. There is a long summer ahead for that, and at my age and the poor shape I am in now, I need to work slowly up to that place!
