A surprise 4th of July morning ride!
I did some laps to loosen up the stiffness from yesterday's 25 miles. This 20 in the neighborhood was fun.
I rode a few of the odd-numbered laps harder in spots to get my heartrate up. But most of the time I just took in all the decorations and people out and about.
The story of the ride came afterward. I must share with you.
A neighbor on our block is from Spain, and her parents are here visiting. Her father, she told me earlier, likes to watch the Tour de France.
He was out cutting grass when I finished my laps, so I rode over to say hi (the only Spanish I know) and show him my bike.
He doesn't speak English. I don't speak Spanish. But we both spoke the language of cycling! With his daughter there as interpreter, we talked about some of the great Spanish riders. I let him lift up my bike as I was showing it off to him. He got a BIG smile on his face when he did. Then I pulled the water bottle to make it feel lighter....he laughed and laughed about that. Wonderful moment.
