...then some asshole

Well, Happy Easter and all that jazz.

When it is 62 degrees and sunny on the day before Easter in NE Wisconsin you take advantage of such spring-like weather.

Morning--Yard work

Mid-day-- Detailed my car

Afternoon-- Bike ride

And what a ride.

I needed to get away from the shore of Lake Winnebago, where a cold lake effect breeze was once again leaving me cheated of the warm sunshine. I decided to head west on one of my old summer routes I used to call, "The View". It's a 30-mile rectangle that takes me into the farm fields, silos and tractors in no time. And yes, there is one spot with a great view from higher up, where you see the rolling fields of a farm.

As I rode out into a cool wind I kept telling myself that it was going to get better. Go farther away from the lake and it will feel warmer. And tailwind would be in the future as well.

No issues at all.

I had good legs and enjoyed taking it all in, knowing that Easter chocolate and an Easter dinner were ahead in the weekend.

Coming back the Trestle Trail Bridge was packed with people. Perhaps they thought it was nice and warm. To them maybe it was. But if they had come from where I was to the west they would have really felt warm!

All was coming to a rock solid riding experience close. And then some asshole...

BOOM, there's the title of the post.

Just a few blocks from my house in a residential area with no other traffic at all I am riding a couple of feet out from the gutter, minding my own business and not too far out in the road when a pickup truck slowed down and drifted toward me as he passed. The driver then yelled out the open passenger window, "RIDE RIGHT"!

I immediately sat up as he turned left away from me and yelled out, "WHAT?"

Mr. tough guy in his big pickup truck just kept going.

Irks me to no end. Why do people have to be like that?

Had he slowed again I was ready to turn around and give him an earful, against my better judgement.

I'm done with these bullies being mean and abusive and downright threatening at times to cyclists like me, doing nothing wrong...nothing more than simply riding my bike. There was no reason to act like such...well....you know...an asshole.

I am going to make a commitment this season to look right at the license plate of any driver that does this sort of thing to me. I'm going to remember that plate number. When I complete my ride I am going to call the police and report it.

Enough is enough.

And you know what I think?

I think these jacked up jack wagons who hide behind the protection of their vehicles don't expect a rider to argue back. They think they can just act all tough and bully you from the safety of their big-ass truck without being challenged about it.

Now in fairness, I report another driver in a pickup truck at a stop sign as I was finishing my ride.

I was on the left as I made the slight climb on my neighborhood crit course lap, preparing to make a left turn.

The pickup was at a stop sign to my left.

He waited for me, knowing I was going to make a left (I signaled) when I got to the top of the hill.

I made my turn and as I did I gave him a friendly wave, my acknowledgement of his patience. It was also my reminder that not all guys in pickup trucks are...well...you know...assholes!

Happy Easter!
