ThedaStar
Another hot, humid and sunny day. 89 degrees and muggy. What a great stretch of weather we are having for a hot-weather rider like me.
But today was odd.
I headed out to the lake for a Lake Loop lap to see what was up out there. But after I turned off the bridge at ThedaCare hospital and onto Wisconsin Ave. I looked up only to see the sky was dark as night out over Lake Winnebago. It took me quite by surprise. I think I saw a rain shaft out over the water as well. Either way, I was not certain if all of that was coming, going or what??? I was NOT going to take a chance at getting caught in a storm, so I quickly changed plans, cut through Riverside Park and settled on neighborhood crit course laps so I would remain close to home in case of a storm.
After four laps in the heat I started getting bored and decided to go back and take a look again at the original route because the sky didn't look bad now at all. It wasn't. So on I went with the original plan.
Going over the bridge at the hospital I wondered what that loud noise was. Then I remembered...it was was the ThedaStar medical helicopter taking off from the hospital.
Up, up and away it went as I headed out on a Lake Loop lap. I always wonder if there was a bad accident somewhere or was someone simply in need of fast transport from another facility? Maybe an organ donor? Who knows?
I guess because of the heat the route was rather deserted. I saw hardly a soul on the entire ride.
No issues on the bike, just a little tired in general.
Interesting that as I was on the bridge on the way home I heard it in the distance. Getting louder. Sure enough, it was ThedaStar coming back to land. So in the time it took me to ride out and back around the pond on the Lake Loop lap the copter had made it's run.
