The numbers don't lie

Another 45-minute Carmichael today on the bike. But today I did something different and it was telling, because the numbers don't lie.

First number-- 10.7 total miles today, proof that paying attention to what I am about to tell you works.

On my old wired Cateye computer, I have the bottom display showing overall time so that I can follow along with the Carmichael segments.

On the top display I have my speed showing.

Now, this is not to keep track of how fast I am going, this is to keep consistency in the pedaling effort by monitoring that speed.

While in the medium effort segments, I watch the computer to make sure I am holding a steady 15.0 to 15.2 mph reading. Try to keep this steady, not fluctuating a lot up and down. Be consistent. Then while in the high effort segments I did the same thing, only 17.0 to 17.2 mph range.

What I found was that I tended to slip into riding too slow/easy coming off the hard efforts into the medium effort segments. This is where I lost mileage in the past. Today, when I noticed it, I corrected it right away. It paid off.

Why?

Because the numbers don't lie. Use them to your advantage.

Good workout today.
