The Breakaway
What's this? Me on a bike today? Yup.
Before some predicted big storms hit later today, I decided to test out the injured left leg since it is nice and hot and muggy outside. I had rested for days. It felt like I was in a breakaway today as I did 11 laps of the neighborhood crit course. The point here was NOT to put any pressure on the leg by simply spinning at a high rpm. So today I did 10 laps holding 90-94 rpm and not stressing my leg. The only time I dropped down was up the one little climb each lap. I used the final lap for cool down.
It hurt at the start as per usual. I just can not shake this thing. But I thought the spinning might stretch it out and loosen things up. It did. The ride came to me as it went on. Things felt better, but never quite right. Now I'll have to rest it again for a bit. This slow dance to recovery is not meant for an impatient man like me!
Still, I got 20 miles in at a high rpm and pretty good average speed for me...an injured me.
