Struggle continues
Well, at least it was a sunny struggle today.
Had the weather conditions not been so good for a March 8th I would have never gone out at all today due to my ailing body. But sunshine and 56 degrees was too good to pass up. So despite being beat up and fighting a health issue, I took out to just do some easy laps in the neighborhood this afternoon.
Big ring up front. And I never shifted from the second-easiest cog on the rear cassette. I wanted no undo pressure on my tricky left knee, just a nice even spin.
For the first time this season it was warm enough to ride without shoe covers or wind pants over my bibs. I DID wear the one full-length pair of bibs I own, so no bare legs yet.
As for the health issue, I have some sort of intestinal bug I guess. Sharp lower stomach area pains come and go, and it's intense. This happened to me once before last fall and it lasted for two days. It feels like someone is ringing out your guts like a wet towel. It is as if you have severe gas cramps, but there is no gas to pass and get relief!
The left knee felt about the same today. Not bad. Not right. And then when I got off the bike I felt a sharp pain in the muscle around the hip on that same left side. There must be some sort of fit issue happening. Thing is, when you are sort of sick and trying to push through a ride, you can't really know what causes pains. I guess I will have to wait until I feel better in general, and then see if this persists. The only thing I can think of is going in to have a professional look at my position on the bike and perhaps try an adjustment or two.
But this new hip area muscle pain that's new isn't going away as I type this.
It's hell getting old I guess. Pass the aspirin.
