Speed Watch
When I say speed watch, it's not about how fast I can go. No, this speed watch is all about consistency while doing a Carmichael.
Greetings from the flight deck during the workout today.
I looked at that speed reading a lot throughout the 45 minutes.
The point here is not to fall off too far during the medium and hard segments...to maintain a speed for the duration.
When in the starting gear and the easiest portions, I am holding upper 13's in the warm-up, recovery, and warm-down sections.
During the medium effort segments, up into one harder gear and I am holding in the low 15's mph.
During the hard effort segments, up into one gear harder from medium gear and holding my speed in the low 17's mph. Once in a while I will hard-crank right at the end of one of the hard effort minutes.
But that's the formula;
-Maintain low 13's in the easy segments
-Maintain low 15's in the medium segments
-Maintain low 17's in the hard segments
I catch myself easing up too much after gearing down from the hard to the medium segments. I also catch myself falling off the pace in the second set of these, starting at the 26-minute in point. It's easy to correct when you are speedo watching like I was today.
Plus it pays off. You can see from a solid 11.0 miles today. Same workout at other times without the speedo watching and I tally only 10 miles.
Try it some time. Another plus to doing this? It seems to help pass the time more quickly because your brain is paying attention to this instead of watching the clock.
Good, solid effort today and it felt good to sweat.
