Smile when it hurts

My schedule today dictated a later start to my bike workout than normal, and I do believe that was part of the problem today. Starting a little after 3:00 is just not me. But it was then or not at all.

I'm just more tired by that time of day.

After the halfway point easy effort at the 26-minute mark everything seemed to be a struggle. I gave up on the mph and just made the gear changes and effort level changes, but did not hold the minimum speed as per usual. There was just nothing in my legs.

My buddy Jerry here once gave me a paper placemat from the restaurant at the top of Alpe d'Huez where he had climbed on his bike. He signed it to me, "Smile when it hurts buddy."

I looked at that sign hung on the wall in front of me and tried to smile through the sluggishness of the afternoon. I'm not sure if it was a smile or a grimace.

At 39 degrees outside and sunny, I did have the window in the cycling room cracked open for a bit of fresh air today. Lots of snow melt has been happening this week. It may hit 41ish on Saturday. MAYBE air the tires on the road bike and go out into the messy wet road for a few neighborhood laps? Hmmmm.
