Mercedes Mystery
For the past couple of days both my wife and I have driven past this little repair garage that also sells used cars. Nothing ever fancy there, which is what caught my attention in the first place. I noticed a classic little red Mercedes Benz convertible with the top down sitting on the lot.
Odd. Way too good to be for sale at this place. Huh.
It looks something like this one.
Was it for sale?
Did it belong to someone who worked there?
Why would the top be left down on a SUNDAY?
Day later my wife drove past there and the car was still there in the same spot with the top down, positioned just differently from the other cars for sale so as to create doubt as to whether or not THIS car was actually for sale. No "For Sale" sign in sight either.
So today I decided I would ride over there to see if it was still around. 3:00 in the afternoon, the hottest time of the day under a beating sun and 90 degrees. Fine by me. The breeze you create by riding actually keeps me quite comfortable. Yes, I love riding in my heat of summer.
Anyway, this meant I would have to climb two bridge hills right at the start of the ride, then turn around and do it again to get back and ride a lake loop too.
As the place came into sight I did not see the car.
Disappointment.
But for some reason I decided to turn right and then into the lot, where I could see the two-bay garage doors were open, but with my shades I could not tell if anyone (or thing) was in there. So I rolled over and when I got there I heard a voice say, "Hello."
And there it was on the lift in front of me.
The mystery was about to be solved!
Not for sale.
A customer had dropped it off to have some work done, including replacing the exhaust.
The guy told me he has had quite a few inquiries about it, but that the owner was not selling it. I love the small town chat. He tells me the name of the owner....'you know, doctor so-and-so over on Wisconsin Ave.", as if everyone in the world knows the good doctor. I do not.
Oh well.
Off to a lake loop enjoying the heat, but not doing anything serious today. That may come again on Thursday. We'll see.
