Hello 2021!

Welcome 2021.

My indoor riding season on the trainer started out with a bang today.

As I began my "Weigh-In Wednesday" segments on my PhilCast radio show podcast today, one of my callers said something about starting out with the same old thing we've done year after year in January.

I thought about that as I warmed up to mount the old backup Klein bike on the trainer this afternoon. And it was then that I decided I would try to start out the indoor season with something different. Instead of easing into it with an easy spin, why not just forget about building up to a "Carmichael" workout and just DO one right out of the blocks?!

I did it. I made it. But it wasn't easy for sure.

For the first time in months, I did some stretching and core exercises prior to getting on the bike.

My body felt like a stiff pretzel. Ten sit-ups seemed like the chore of a lifetime. There was no denying it as I began to pedal....I have grown soft as jello over the past couple of months.

I reminded myself that you have to start the comeback somewhere, and this would be it. Plus I would challenge myself to do a full Carmichael workout my first time out. I'll go over a review of what the Carmichael actually is in a later post. I've been doing these for years during the winter months.

Two mistakes today;

1-I'm so out of practice that I forgot to bring a water bottle with me. Bad.

2-I need to set up a fan in front of me.

I wanted a good sweat, so I rode with a long-sleeved t-shirt with a hoodie over the top. I was soaked.

Still, despite a sore butt, tired legs and labored breathing at times, I felt good about the accomplishment afterward. Now it's time to keep it going, and sometimes that is the toughest part of all of this.
