Breaking Barriers

Back outside today!

45 degrees.

Sunshine.

Light Wind.

Dry roads.

That makes all three months with an outdoor ride now.

First of all, before heading out, I actually fixed my bike noise myself!

The noise from shifting and not being able to trim out went away after I used that small barrel-like adjuster you see in the picture. I took a guess as to which way to turn it. I cranked it a couple of turns, then took the bike down the block for a test in street clothes.

No noise. Smooth shift. I must have guessed right!

On the actual ride there was no more noise and everything worked perfectly.

Now, to those barriers.

I did a lap of my Lake Loop route and then decided to do a few neighborhood laps to complete the ride.

When my legs grew tired and I started feeling cold and as if I had had enough I looked down at my computer to see 10.7 miles completed. It should come as no surprise that I felt tired at that point since that's the quitting point on a typical Carmichael trainer ride indoors.

My body has gotten used to going that much and then stopping.

But I was determined at that point to push through that barrier, because doing so is the only way you become a better cyclist.

So I ended up doing five laps for a total of 21 miles.

Barrier broken.
