Lost & Found

Unreal.

For the second time in less than 24 hours I found myself once again lost out there on the road, only unlike yesterday, today this was NOT an enjoyable experience. This ride kicked my ass!

Wind. It is not your friend when riding a bike with already tired legs. The route I chose west out of town was a bad choice because it meant a steady 10-15 mph wind in the face heading out, a wind that simply sucked all the life out of my legs in a hurry.

At a split in the road I decided to take a bend to the right, not my usual thing to do there. I would get out of the wind this way. I had had enough of the howling in my ears.

Sure...turn right....get a break from the wind, then then take another couple of right-hand turns to get back to where I started. Simple.

Once I made that initial right turn, there was one problem-- no roads to turn right again on for a long time. I think I was on "M" and saw I now had made it out to the next county from where I started. I looked ahead and saw nothing but a straight road with a couple of rather large hills to be conquered. Not a cross road to be found.

I figured the best thing to do was just turn around and go back the way I came. More wind, now a crosswind and still nagging me.

By mile 17 of the 29 I was suffering. It was almost a total bonk. It was the kind of ride where all you do is tell yourself to keep one foot in front of the other and slowly make your way closer to home. Yuk.

But before I got lost and placed into the pain locker, I was happy. Happy because of THIS FIND...

This is a RARE Ferrari 250 GT long wheel base model, just being tweaked or dialed in for the owner by a shop in little old Neenah, Wisconsin. The driver told me it is one of only 50 produced.

I mean, as a car guy words fail me here. Stunned. An honor just to happen upon this beautiful, rare machine.

I am so glad I stopped after it caught my eye turning into a gas station. I turned around to see if indeed I would find the car in the lot....and there it was!

Wow.

I mean, just wow.

So to finish the ride story, I was able to hobble my way home knowing that was enough riding for me in the past two days. Tomorrow it's rest and recovery before I end up with an injury.
