Hot Sunday Ride

You'd think with the temperature at 85, the dew point at 68 and the humidity at 58 the story of this hazy sunshine ride would be the heat.

You'd be wrong.

The weather story was the wind, blowing at about 15 mph out there on those open country roads. When it was a headwind, especially during the second half of the ride, it was a real chore.

The heat and humidity? That I don't mind that at all. I never felt hot during the entire extended ride today. This is the kind of day I dream about all winter long.

I wanted to see if the construction blockade heading out of town on Jacobson Rd. had been cleared so I took a chance and rode over the Trestle Trail Bridge for the first time in about a month I guess.

The signs were still there, as were the construction barrels, but so was a fresh layer of asphalt, meaning I could once again get through. Great!

So I headed out west, making a left when I usually would take a right at Medina Junction. That too is marked 'closed' but a riding bud, "Uncle Pauly" had told me a while back that you can still get through on a bike.

He was right, although I had to cyclocross it around some cement barriers at one point. But the little road was unique because it is a mere ribbon through a marsh filled with cattails. Cattails higher than my head on both sides of me. Pretty neat.

Turns out the road just spit me out in a spot that was exactly where I wanted to be.

I chomped down an energy bar I had brought along and pressed onward.

As I got closer to town I wanted to make sure I was over 30 miles, so I did a Lake Loop lap, stopping for a brief rest here.

I've really come to love this little pathway I use to turn around on, now overgrown with wild prairie flowers surrounding the pond with two fountains blasting away to keep the water moving.

No issues physically today. I felt good. I felt loose.

Good day.

Hot. Sticky. 36 miles on a lazy summer Sunday afternoon.

My kind of day.

Next up, my wife and I will be making a summertime tradition;

Italian Summer Soup for dinner.

Yum.
