Lots of 3's
Today it was great weather, albeit windy, which played a role in the second half of what turned out to be the longest ride of the season today.
33 miles. 13.3 average mph. Lots of 3's.
The ride out was a piece of cake, hitting the 15-mile mark with ease on, as you can see, what was a wonderful day.
However it was easy to tell that all the way riding out there was a tailwind pushing me.
In the back of your head you know you are going to pay for that on the way back.
But I try not to think about and just enjoy the view as I made my way through the countryside past Allen's Produce in Allenville, WI.
I'll call this route the Cross Loop, because that's the name of the road I took to begin crossing over before heading back.
Ironically, with the wind in my face for 16 miles coming home I was on a road called Breezewood. How appropriate.
There were only a couple of stretches on the way back when I found myself struggling at times. The wind can really suck the life right out of your legs. Not only that, the constant humming in your ears starts to wear me down mentally as well.
I just kept going, thinking that this would be a good chance today to set the mark for longest ride of the year. That was my goal, and I did it despite the wind.
And once again I was SHOCKED when I got home and got off the bike in my driveway...shocked at how little wind there seemed to be. Yet when you get out there in open farmland it's a whole different story.
Still, pleased with the ride.
Only one jackwagon today yelled, "Get off the road", as they blew past me. No reason at all for that kind of behavior from people.
