Pulled Pork
Well, knowing the weather forecast for Sunday, I pretty much had no choice but to get myself one little ride in today before the snow, sleet and 43-degree high temp Mother's Day weather moves in!
Today was no picnic either, but compared to tomorrow, yikes.
52 and windy, with wind chills in the low 40's thanks to that constant 10-12 mph breeze.
I told myself I had to earn the big dinner we have planned for tonight.
As I left the house it already smelled of the pork roast in the slow cooker.
Tonight it's BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with a fresh batch of prairie salad my wife put together this morning. That, plus she brought some cheese jalapeno chips (we rarely have chips in the house) and a six pack of Miller High Life home from the store.
It's like some sort of special occasion tonight at the dinner table. So I told myself to go out and earn it, despite that cold wind once again haunting me.
Know what else haunts me now as it turns out?
My new Specialized shoes. My toes continue to go numb and the shoes simply feel a little too snug. It's to the point now where it bothers me on rides. I have to wiggle my toes around to get some feeling back in them while I'm riding.
I don't know much, but I know that ain't right!
I reached out to my bud Jerry down in Florida to pick his vast tank of cycling knowledge about this. He explained to me that modern shoes, unlike back in the day, do NOT stretch much with wear. In other words, don't expect these to break in, which is what I was hoping for.
Maybe I go back to my old shoes and just get that tightening wheel that broke on them fixed?
Stay tuned I guess.
Anyway, can't wait for warmer weather. While I was on the phone with Jerry he told me he was about to cut his grass and that it was 85 there.
I told him I may be shoveling tomorrow.
