New Tires

First ride with two new tires for the season, which I picked up at PhilCast show sponsor Cranked Bike Studio in Neenah on Tuesday.

They felt great.

I felt pretty good too.

The new shoes are coming in nicely, only giving me a little tightness around the ball of my left foot by the end of the 30 miles.

They're still being broken in I think.

I am still amazed at how little wind there seems to be while standing in my driveway at home compared to what I feel at times out on those country roads.

In fact today I changed course just to get out of a headwind for a while and it led me to wondering if I was lost at one point. I went left where I usually go right onto "T", so I guess I will call this route LefTy. That put me into some tailwind and a much-need break for my legs.

Turns out I was okay all along, coming out on "A" riding along the shore of Lake Winnebago. 30 miles was a good strong effort today at almost 15 mph average speed.

I am also still amazed at how different some riders are from me when it comes to the temperature out there.

I played it just right today. 62 degrees with that chilly wind, so I had a long-sleeved base layer under a long-sleeved jersey with a wind jacket on top. Three layers, with knicker 3/4-length bibs on. I saw a roadie going past me from the other direction today with bare arms and legs.

Brrrrrrrr.

Speaking of which, we've got some stunningly-cold temps in our future with frost on the way....lows in the upper 20's with flurries possible Friday. Looks like it will be a while before I head out on another adventure on those country roads.
