Layers
This was unplanned, but now I can say I have ridden every day of March thus far after making it back-to-back rides outside today.
Here's the irony though.
It was colder today at 39 degrees with a wind chill of 32 than it was 24 hours ago when I was freezing and pulled off early.
Today, despite the colder conditions, I didn't feel as cold.
Why?
Layers.
Let's take a look;
Here is some stuff I bet my friend Jerry down in Florida didn't wear if he went riding down there today.
I switched to full shoe-cover booties today with wool socks under.
I switched to lobster gloves instead of full-fingered yesterday. These are much warmer.
I pulled on a pair of winter wind pants over the top of my full-length bibs today, unlike yesterday.
On top I had four layers;
--long-sleeve base layer
--long-sleeve jersey
--winter riding jacket
--windbreaker pull over as a top layer
On my lid, instead of just the balaclava, I added a another skull cap-like base layer on my head.
This time I was ready. And I actually felt pretty good out there. Nothing even started to get cold until my toes were feeling it by the final eighth lap.
Once again a pesky ice-cold wind persists. And of course it turns into a head wind as I climb the only little hill of each lap of this course.
Still, two days in a row in the cold weather outside thanks to a lack of snow on the roads. I'll take that.
Plus, no snow in the forecast. It may hit 40 again later this week and I may be bundling up once again for another winter ride.
