Snow Be Damned!

The last week of February 2020 has arrived and after today I have an interesting little streak I now want to pursue.

With snow in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, today's Sunday afternoon ride outside dodging ice patches on the road was well worth it because this was the last chance to have a road bike ride in February. This means I have ridden outside in January and February, no easy task on a road bike in a climate this harsh this time of year.

Now it becomes obvious-- the goal is to ride in every month of the year in 2020.

Take a look at how much snow is piled next to my driveway at this time. I took this right after my 20-mile neighborhood jaunt today.

On each lap of my course there were two areas with snow melt puddles I had to ride through.

And the only bad patch of road in terms of icy conditions was the corner right at my house, which I gingerly pinpointed my through each lap. Other than that most of the course was actually dry. I'm really glad I went out today.

It doesn't take much for Wisconsinites to come out in February. Sunshine and 46 degrees this afternoon was more than enough of a temptation to get out. It seems as though every human with two working feet was out walking while I turned laps.

I had to take the time to wipe down my bike afterward, but it was well worth the mess and the fuss today. Knees in the breeze! Well not quite, but I DID where knickers with some exposed flesh...and I felt fine out there today.

52 miles in outside in 2020 and it's only February 23rd.
