"Super Sunday" OUTDOOR ride!

Just hours from now they'll be playing Super Bowl 54 in Miami. Here it is February 2nd, Groundhog Day 2020 and I rode outside today for only the second time this year. It was no Miami, but it might as well have been. Felt great!

Last year at this time=

Polar vortex

This year=

47 degrees and sunny for the first day in two weeks.

Granted, the 20 mph wind made for a wind chill of the upper 30's but who cares? With four-foot high snow banks along the road in places, there I was on the road turning laps in the old neighborhood and it felt fantastic.

There is something special about living in this climate that people living in warm, snow-free parts of the country could never fully appreciate. The thrill of just getting outside to ride in a some sunshine in the middle of winter. The ability to be able to ride on roads that are clear of snow and ice at this time of year is a rarity, something to be taken advantage of.

You almost feel like you're getting away with something...sneaking in a ride on your road bike during the time of year when the trainer would normally be your only option indoors.

People were everywhere, as if we all crawled out of our holes just long enough to take advantage of seeing a '4' as the first digit of our temperature in February.

Dog walkers.

Walkers without dogs.

Joggers.

Runners.

People driving around with their vehicle windows open.

Me?

All I had to do was ride through a few snow melt puddles and fight up the one little hill of each lap because it was a straight headwind going up that thing.

No complaints here.

I'm out riding on Super Bowl Sunday. That's nuts!

Now it's time for some game snacks, knowing I put in a good effort today on the bike OUTSIDE, earning the calories about to go in!

RIDE

OUTSIDE-- Neighborhood Crit Course, 11 laps

20.5 miles/13.5 average mph

2020 SEASON MILES
