What an exciting stage finish at the Tour de France today.
The summit back buster in a stage that featured seven categorized climbs provided a new leader and a ton of drama and effort on the part of the riders.
I took that effort and transported it onto myself, telling myself the goal today would be to push and to work hard out of the saddle on each and every lap I went up the little hill.
Mission accomplished!
I pushed.
I climbed up that little hill out of the saddle on every lap.
I ended up with a 15.2 average speed. Now, five-six years ago if I would have gone out with average speed in mind and to push myself a 15.2 at the end would have been disappointing.
But you age. You slow down. Your perspective changes. Now a 15.2 is a success.
I felt great out there today. The only burn came going up the hill the last two laps. Other than that, with my polka dot climbing hat from Europe under my helmet today for inspiration, I did my part on a bike.
