You know, it's never good when you roll up on this during a planned ride.....

However.....

2019 Outdoor Season: Ride #20

The Route: Aborted High Cliff

The Miles: 23.0

The Time: 1:44

The Ave. Speed: 13.1 mph

The Weather: Sunny and warm, 82, Wind 5-10 mph

Season Total Miles: 409.0

Ah yes, that old saying, "Plans of mice and men."

Today I planned on attempting the climb at High Cliff State Park, but I never got there thanks to the road being totally wiped out along the way.

From the looks of the project I won't be getting to High Cliff to do that climb for a while! There really is no other way to go for me other than being on 114, which is way too dangerous for my taste.

I had to be on it briefly today and the experience of riding on a narrow shoulder that's loaded with rocks and other hazards while cars and trucks are zooming by your left shoulder at 60+ mph....that's a hard pass for me!

However as I circled back I did eventually get onto a beautiful country road with nothing but farmland and a few horses joining me. Now THAT's more like it!

At 82 degrees, sunny and muggy, we're just getting into my sweet spot for riding temps. Man I do love the heat, and was ready to crack the climb today. Here's my theory....

The construction obstruction was God's way of steering me clear of that beast of a hill because I wasn't ready to conquer it today. There was a slight tweak in my right knee from the other day and I suppose that could have popped on the way up had I made it to the park.

Rather than continue to High Cliff on that busy stretch of 114, I made the decision to play it safe and just head back home.

I had a litttle more in me, but once the challenge of the climb was taken off the table I admit I sort of lost interest and just enjoyed soaking up the sun on an easy ride back.

The right hot

83 degrees and sunshine. Hot? Sure. But not humid. It was just the right kind of hot, and nothing compared to the 100+ degrees at today's...
