The Story
One of my favorite things to do while on vacation is to hop on a rusty-chained beach cruiser bike and take to the paths of Sanibel Island.
They all lead to somewhere great, and there are plenty of pathways to follow.
On our first full day on the island Sandy and I rode about 10 miles, making stops along the way at everything from a doggie birthday party (complete with cake and ice cream) to an art gallery. As we rode along a secluded path that runs next to the Sanibel River we stopped to look at about a dozen nests with yellow-crowned night herons in them. What a sight!
We rode even longer a couple of days later, doing about 20 miles with the friends we met that day. Jerry and Pam rented a tandem and we all rode from the west end of the island to the east end, where we took a break for lunch, sitting outside at Gramma Dot's enjoying coconut shrimp and grouper before the long ride back.
No miles I will complete this summer season will be as enjoyable as those miles were on that hot sunny day.
