The Story
See the picture of my gloves up there next to the ride stats? Well, those should have been the gloves I wore. But no, I had to be under-dressed today.
Just 24 hours ago under the same weather conditions it was 49 degrees. I wore a full balaclava under my helmet, full-length bibs, long-sleeved base layer, jersey, and a winter riding jacket with full-fingered gloves.
Today, it was a mere five degrees warmer and somehow that translated to it being warm outside. So.....
Regular gloves=cold fingers
Riding vest instead of jacket=cold arms
Half melon cover instead of full balaclava=cold ears
...you get the idea. I was colder today than yesterday, despite the increase in temp by five degrees. My bad.
It still amazes me how warm it can seem standing outside your door in the sun with what seems like no wind at all.
But the minute you get out there on the road, BAM, where did that nagging cold wind come from?
So I did a lap of my crit, followed by a lake loop lap and then just called it quits. Much of both these routes is along the shores of Lake Winnie and it's just flat-out cold to me. Yet on my final lap, there she was, a young lady in very short running shorts and nothing more than a tank top over a sports bra out jogging.
Different worlds I guess.
