The Story
For the first time in 2019 the rubber really did meet the road. I took the old faithful Klein road bike off the trainer and set out to dodge what Mother Nature has left me on the roads around my house.
No stretching here. Today my warmup was using an ice chopper in my driveway apron, trying to free up 6" of ice blocking the flow of the melting 5' snow piles!
I told myself since the temperature was over 50 that I would try to get in at least five laps. Somehow, between the wet roads, patches of ice on one corner and a small lake on another, sand, gravel, potholes and small streams flowing in the gutters...somehow I managed to keep it upright.
What a great feeling to be back in the wind. I could have done more laps, but it began to rain. I knew it was a race against time because I could see an entire deck of black clouds getting closer and closer during the ride.
And so it begins....the 2019 outdoor season is now officially underway. Although looking at the forecast, I don't think I'll be out there again any time soon.
Everything, the bike, me, my clothes and my shoes, is coated with wet dirt now. Time to clean up....me and the bike.
