The Story
On a beautiful, sunny and mild Sunday I was finally able to get a few miles in today, albeit with what I call Mulch Legs.
Friday my wife and I spent seven straight hours weeding and mulching all the gardens at the Fox Valley house. Needless to say on Saturday, despite the nice weather, there was no riding in the cards. Everything that makes up my body seemed sore.
Besides, I had to finish up one last shade garden, then work on cleaning up a neighbor's old classic pickup truck that he loaned me to haul the mulch.
Today I rode with heavy legs, made sore from a weekend of manual labor in the yard. Still, as I turned nice and easy laps today I felt OK....just taking it slow.
Plenty of people were out and about today, but I didn't see many on road bikes. Then again, I'm only doing laps in my neighborhood.
Some of the regulars were out though...
--Junko, my 90-year-old Japanese friend down the street, was working in her yard.
--Victoria was walking her dog at about her normal afternoon stroll time, wearing her Sunday best as usual.
--Garden hat lady was out in her garden with her big straw hat on.
--Another neighbor from down the street Simon's two large dogs were taking him for a walk as usual as well.
--Mike and Judy were sitting on their screen porch across from our house the entire ride.
There was another wedding party parking to take pictures by the water. And I was happy to see a truck with a wet boat trailer parked in an area clearly reserved for the wedding party had gotten a ticket.
On one lap I saw a bright red Olds 442 with the top down, showing off it's perfect-looking white interior. Cool car.
It was parked in a driveway with some people standing near it talking. I was tempted to stop, and told myself I might just do that on the next lap by. But alas, by the time I had come back around the car was gone.
Anyway...on lap 11 of 12 I did stop briefly to take this picture.
I was fine. My bike needed a rest.
