The Story

There's probably a good reason as to why I was feeling tired and used up toward the end of this ride.

-No pre-ride Ibuprofen.

(usually take two if a 30-miler is planned for the day)

- No pre-ride food.

-No pre-ride stretching.

I was in a hurry to get going under the false assumption that I was going to lose the sun soon. You see with me, it's all about soaking up the sun out there on the road. Without that beautiful hot ball in the sky I lose all my determination and will to ride. It looked like clouds might be building. So off I went in a hurry.

Despite the lack of pre-ride prep I managed to do something I had never done before, and that's three complete laps of this course.

Much of this route runs along or very near the shores of Lake Winnebago, and there is no doubt that seeing blue water and boats is a treat while you ride.

But the wind coming off that water made it a little tougher than I would have liked on my legs at several times today.

On each lap I turn around in a parking lot which is located at a little retention pond where they have a park bench and a walking path set up for people to use. Today at this murky little pond there was a majestic great blue heron hanging out.

I thought about stopping to take a photo, but it was one of those deals where I knew it would be hard to see in a picture because of the distance between us. So I kept riding.

I DID stop on the last lap to take that the picture you see here. I also put up a video clip for patrons of my PhilCast show.

From the video you can get a feel for the wind I'm talking about.

Still, sunshine and a ride=good day for me.
