The Story
New route today, miles added onto an old route, thanks mostly in part to Construction Girl...and here's the story.
Early in the ride today, about six miles in, there was a piece of road ahead that narrowed to a single lane.
On either side of the construction area was a person stopping traffic, alternating directions. As I rolled up the girl holding the stop sign started talking me up.
"How many miles you got in?", she asked as her opener. From there I learned that she hasn't been on her bike much...she's from Milwaukee...she's a rider too....we both like the warm weather...
I'm gonna tell myself she was flirting with me!
When it was finally our direction's turn to go she said, "Why don't you wait here until the traffic goes first just to be safe."
Sweet. She was looking out for me.
Well, once we said our goodbyes I was obviously flustered because I didn't notice that the place I was supposed to turn right was actually in that coned-off zone. I rode right past it before I realized the mistake I had made.
So be it. It's a nice day and I am riding now along the shore of Lake Winnebago, heading toward Oshkosh. I call the route Triple G now, and I'm going to keep it. Because this very accidental ride took me from GG to G, where I picked up my The View ride. It all worked out great, and I took some video clips along the way and posted them. They only stay posted for 24 hours at my PhilCast site. If there is still time, here is the link.
The only fly in the ointment all day was a steady 10-15 mph headwind most of the way back, but if that was the only issue, so be it. I was enjoying the sunshine and mild temps too much to be put off by some wind.
I felt great today as well. Part of that is because I just took my time in the saddle and took it all in, one of the great things about this solo sport.
