The Story

You know those T-shirts with the writing on front that say something to the effect of, 'I was on vacation and all I got was this dumb T-shirt"?

Well that's kind of how I felt when I finished today's workout turning laps on my neighborhood crit course.

Early on in the ride I was working on my cornering form.

Later in the ride I was making hard tempo in spots on the odd-numbered laps. And as I started glancing at my average speed indicator arrow on the computer I noticed that it seemed I was hovering around the 16 mph mark.

With just three laps to go, I now had it in my head that I would like to at least maintain enough speed to hold on to the upper 15's for an average on this ride, which would be pretty good for me as of late.

When I usually use lap 10 as a cool down lap, today I pushed it, trying to save my average. I mean I felt it. I was hurting. I was tired. Breathing was labored.

The final lap comes to a close. I pull into my yard and immediately start to scroll through the computer to get to average speed for the ride and there it was: 15.5.

That's it?

I made all that effort at then end and that's all I got.

See, just like the T-shirt slogan.

Oh well....nice effort any way.
