The Story

So the story of today's ride actually begins with yesterday's ride.

First of all, the weather must be addressed.

Today was an exact copy of yesterday's perfection.

This is the stuff I dream about all winter long when on the trainer inside wishing for spring.

Now, back to yesterday...

Early in the ride, about three miles in, a guy on a squeaky old bike wearing tennis shoes and cutoff jean shorts passed me on the left.

I thought to myself, that must be some sight. Here I am in full kit on my fancy carbon fiber road bike getting passed by THIS guy!

Days past I would have sped up and just passed him on principal alone. Not yesterday though. I was only warming up, and I'd like to think I've grown up a little when it comes to all that testosterone-fueled nonsense.

So I just continued with my easy warmup time, which for me lasts about the first 5-6 miles of any given ride.

I looked to my left in a residential neighborhood to see the street he went down as I went straight. Looked like a pretty road and I wondered where it would lead to.

So today I decided to find out. I would take the road unknown, making that turn to see where it lead.

Double bonus--tree lined beauty plus a view of the water. Bingo! I kinda like this.

But as is often the case, the road unknown ends with a sign like this one.

Dang.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

I ended up going back the way I came, then took part of my GTL route until I took a second road unknown.

This one put me into a heavy-duty industrial area I had never been in before. It too ended with a turnaround, so then I simply wanted to do 10 miles out and 10 miles back in total, which is exactly what this adventure turned out to be....20 miles, much of it on the road unknown.

That's five days of riding in a row now, most of this season. My body feels like it needs a day off for rest and recovery, but it is hard to not roll out when the weather is this nice and unemployment gives you an opportunity to use your freedom in a good way.

I'm getting into pretty good riding shape this summer!

The right hot

83 degrees and sunshine. Hot? Sure. But not humid. It was just the right kind of hot, and nothing compared to the 100+ degrees at today's...
